Bright Data is a proxy and web data infrastructure provider aimed at companies and data teams that need to collect information at scale: scraping, price monitoring, ad verification or AI model training. It isn't built for casual users — access requires a KYC check, runs through its own management dashboard, and contracts range from pay-as-you-go entry tiers up to enterprise plans with an SLA and a dedicated account manager.
Its residential network exceeds 400 million monthly IPs across 195 countries, with free targeting down to city, ZIP code, carrier and ASN level. It also offers datacenter proxies (over 1.3 million IPs) and ISP proxies, though — unlike some competitors — it no longer markets a separate "mobile proxies" product on its current site. The company was founded in 2014 as Luminati Networks, part of the same group as the free VPN Hola, and was sold to EMK Capital in 2017 before being renamed Bright Data in 2021; those origins were publicly controversial, since free Hola users' bandwidth was resold as residential exit traffic without that relationship being made clear to them upfront. Today Bright Data explains its IP sourcing differently: per its own site, every residential IP "opts in" — app owners install an SDK and are paid monthly based on how many users join, and those end users are compensated with an ad-free experience or free premium features, and can opt out at any time; the company states this process is independently audited.

Datacenter and ISP proxies, by contrast, start from $0.60/GB or $1.40/IP with no monthly commitment. An API covers both account management and scraping (SERP, Browser, Unlocker), concurrent sessions are unlimited by the provider's own account, and a free trial with no credit card is available across all three proxy types.
