$2.50 is the first-month (or first-term, for 6, 12 or 24-month commitments) price of the Standard Web Hosting plan; after that it renews at $7/month on the monthly option, and longer terms renew proportionally to that same rate ($42/6 months, $84/year, $168/2 years).
InterServer is a budget US hosting provider, headquartered in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and operating since 1999. Its entry plan, Standard Web Hosting, is advertised from $2.50 for the first month, or the first term if a 6, 12 or 24-month commitment is chosen, but it renews at $7/month on the monthly option; longer terms renew proportionally to that same rate ($42 every 6 months, $84 a year, $168 every two years), so the real ongoing cost sits at roughly $7 a month regardless of the term picked. The plan includes unmetered storage and transfer, unlimited email and FTP accounts, weekly backups, a free Cloudflare CDN, SSD caching and free migration help; the domain is not free, it is sold as a $7.99 add-on.
InterServer's long-standing sales pitch is its 'Price Lock Guarantee': according to the company's own announcement, published in 2015 and still live on its official blog, the price a customer signs up at is locked in for life, with no conditions or fine print. The guarantee is no longer promoted prominently on the current pricing page, but the pricing structure in effect today, where the renewal rate does not change with the term length, is consistent with that promise. The control panel on the Standard plan is DirectAdmin, not cPanel; cPanel exists as a separate, slightly pricier option ($8/month on renewal). InterServer's contract guarantees 99.9% monthly network uptime, with service credits capped at 50% of the monthly fee if it is not met, and it offers a full refund within the first 30 days on web hosting accounts. All three of its data centres are in the United States: New York City, Dallas and Los Angeles. Support runs 24/7, with a 1-3 hour response target that the company itself does not guarantee as a contractual commitment.

Why Cheap Hosting Costs More at Renewal
The advertised price covers the first term, and usually means prepaying years upfront; renewal is charged at list price. The figures from several providers, and the three cases that break the pattern.
