HostGator is a shared hosting provider operating since 2002, based and operated in the United States: its Terms of Service cite offices within the U.S. and Texas state law as the governing jurisdiction. Its own homepage describes WordPress hosting as "supported by Bluehost," and the site's cookie policy links to newfold.com, pointing to the same group as Bluehost (Newfold Digital), although HostGator does not name Newfold Digital explicitly in its visible page text.
The entry-level Hatchling plan is advertised at $3.75 a month, but only with a 36-month prepaid commitment; on renewal it rises to $10.99 a month. The Baby, Business and Pro plans follow the same pattern: $4.50, $6.25 and $13.95 to start, against $16.49, $21.99 and $29.69 on renewal. The control panel is cPanel. The money-back guarantee runs 30 days, though the Terms of Service qualify it considerably: if the plan includes the free domain and the account is cancelled within the first year, $22.99 is deducted from the refund, and the guarantee does not cover domain fees or monthly-billed plans.
Two points are worth reading the fine print on. Each plan card advertises a "free site migration tool," yet the comparison table on that very same page lists "Paid Migration Available" for all three plans shown, a contradiction HostGator does not resolve. On backups, its Terms of Service say it backs up shared accounts "pursuant to its disaster recovery policy," with no guaranteed frequency, and that accounts using more than 20 GB of disk space are dropped from the off-site backup — except for databases — which directly affects the Business (50 GB) and Pro (100 GB) plans. Uptime appears as "99.9%" on the homepage and as a "99% uptime guarantee" on the plans page.
