NordVPN
VPNPanama-based VPN with 8,000+ servers across 225 locations and a no-logs policy audited by independent firms.
The $3.49/month is the two-year Basic plan (27 months under the current promotion); it then renews at $139.08 a year, more than three times that rate.
NordVPN is a virtual private network launched in 2012 and operated out of Panama, aimed at anyone who wants to encrypt their connection, change their virtual location, or browse with less exposure on public Wi-Fi. It works for everyday use — streaming, P2P downloads, remote work — as well as slightly more technical needs, thanks to features such as a kill switch, split tunnelling, Double VPN servers and Meshnet, and it lets a single account protect up to ten devices.
The network now runs more than 8,000 servers across 225 locations, with NordLynx — its WireGuard variant with post-quantum encryption — and NordWhisper as the main protocols, alongside OpenVPN and IKEv2/IPSec for manual setups. Its no-logs policy has been independently reviewed several times: by PricewaterhouseCoopers AG Switzerland in 2018 and 2020, and by Deloitte in the years since. It accepts payment in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and stablecoins, alongside cards and PayPal, and offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.
The fine print is worth reading before paying. The advertised starting price applies to the two-year Basic plan and renews afterwards at $139.08 a year. That Basic plan also excludes the antivirus, ad blocker and password manager that NordVPN highlights elsewhere on its site — those require the Complete plan — and a dedicated IP is only available on the priciest tier. And while the service is operated out of Panama, a country with no data-retention laws that would apply to it, the group's parent company, Nord Security, is corporately headquartered in Lithuania, a nuance worth keeping in mind.
