PancakeSwap V2 is the classic automated market maker on BNB Chain (formerly Binance Smart Chain) that established PancakeSwap as the dominant DeFi protocol on BNB Chain. Launched in April 2021 as an upgrade to the original V1, PancakeSwap V2 implements the constant product AMM formula (x*y=k) — the same model pioneered by Uniswap V2 — adapted for BNB Chain's high-throughput, low-fee environment. The result was a trading experience far more accessible than Ethereum DEXs, bringing millions of users into DeFi for the first time.

The swap fee on PancakeSwap V2 is 0.25%, split among liquidity providers (0.17%), the PancakeSwap treasury (0.03%), and a buyback-and-burn mechanism for CAKE (0.05%). This fee distribution ensures that LPs are rewarded for their capital, the protocol treasury is funded for development, and CAKE supply is continuously reduced to support token value. Liquidity providers receive CAKE-LP tokens representing their share of the pool, which can be staked in yield farms for additional CAKE rewards.

PancakeSwap V2 expanded greatly beyond Uniswap V2's feature set. The platform introduced IFO (Initial Farm Offering), a launchpad mechanism where new BSC projects raise funds by allowing users to commit CAKE or LP tokens in exchange for new project tokens at a preferential rate.
