DeGate is a zero-knowledge rollup decentralized exchange launched on Ethereum in 2023, specializing in order book spot trading with the speed and cost advantages of Layer 2 technology. Built on a ZK-Rollup architecture, DeGate batches thousands of trades off-chain and submits a single succinct ZK proof to Ethereum mainnet, achieving settlement finality with full Ethereum security guarantees while keeping per-trade costs far below mainnet trading fees.

Unlike most DeFi protocols that use AMM liquidity pools, DeGate implements a traditional order book trading model — the same familiar experience of placing limit orders, market orders, and managing open positions that traders know from centralized exchanges. This approach provides deterministic pricing with no slippage for limit orders, and allows sophisticated trading strategies including grid trading and DCA automation to operate on a fully non-custodial on-chain infrastructure.

DeGate's most critical security property is the "trustless withdrawal" or "escape hatch" mechanism: even if the DeGate operators go offline or become unresponsive, users can always unilaterally withdraw their funds directly from the Ethereum mainnet smart contract without requiring any cooperation from the protocol. This property is rigorously enforced by the ZK-Rollup design and was the subject of specific security audits. Unlike optimistic rollups with 7-day withdrawal delays, DeGate's ZK-Rollup provides withdrawals confirmed within minutes.

The DG token serves as DeGate's governance token and fee utility token. DG token holders participate in governance decisions including fee structure, supported asset listings, and treasury allocation. The protocol implements fee discounts for DG stakers and DG-based gas fee payment, reducing friction for active traders on the platform.
